HONEY DEW MODERNIZATION

Renton School District

Honey Dew Elementary has already gone through two phases of upgrades which involved the structural system and the site. The current phase involves the modification of the existing building to meet all the programmatic and physical needs of a 21st century school. Announcing the school’s main entry will be a new pavilion, the school’s arrival sequence will be altered and will allow visitors, staff, and students to intuitively navigate through the school. The office and other administration areas will be located so that the separated bus and parent drop off can be casually supervised. Classrooms will be reconfigured to accommodate flexible program requirements. Classrooms will receive power and data upgrades for new computers and ceiling mounted projectors.

Additionally, all finishes will be upgraded. Many elements of this facility were preserved in an effect to be environmentally friendly. That included the main structure and existing window frames with glazing upgrades. To enhance natural daylight, monitors were added.
